WHAT IS IT?

At PACE, we work to build a connected and more engaged UWCSEA parent community through activity-based programs. We offer UWCSEA parents and alumni across both campuses a varied selection of off-campus activities. Activities are offered fortnightly and typically fall into one of the following three categories:

  • Cultural
  • Community Building
  • Health and Wellness
THE IMPORTANCE OF ACTIVITIES
  • Helping new parents (i) smoothly transition to the school by connecting them with other parents while participating in a common activity; and (ii) who are also new to Singapore, experience local culture and traditions via cultural activities like museum tours, heritage walking tours, art talks etc..
  • Connecting parents (both new and existing) through meaningful activities tied to the UWC mission and its values. In a large school, PACE Activities allow parents to find kindred spirits with common interests – providing a foundation for lifelong friendships.
  • A variety of programs allows parents to try something new (e.g. biking to Sentosa) that can then be replicated with their own families.

So far, I’ve been on two walking tours and two bicycle tours with PACE and I will definitely do more in future. My family moved to Singapore during the pandemic which meant I had not met many parents at all. These events helped me to actually meet some parents and make some connections. It was a huge bonus that the events were also great fun and really energising as well!

I love PACE events, especially the bike rides and the volunteer outings with local charities. They are always well organized, and provide good opportunities to connect with other UWC parents while exploring Singapore. Thank you PACE for helping connect the UWC and Singapore communities!

Not only is the student community heavily involved in activities through PACE activities, even when I just moved in Singapore, but I was also able to smoothly have a transition into the school community with no issues with the friendliness and openness of the PACE staff. Getting to know many parents and also with other parents from the Dover campus. My social life is thriving with help of the professional and informational PACE tours; my favourite being the one at Chinatown and Little India. Then meeting others there and even out of the PACE tours getting to know them individually by introducing them to my own findings of Singapore.

The Battle of Singapore was fought from 8-15 February 1942. Though short, it was a week of intense fighting before the British surrendered Singapore to the Japanese forces. Meandering through Bukit Brown, an expansive beautiful park rich in heritage, join us on a guided walk that will take you back to one of the most turbulent times in Singapore! We are deeply honoured and thankful to Claire Leow, for guiding us and sharing her valuable knowledge with us on our Walk Through War Time Singapore. Clair has been a journalist for over 21 years and loves photography, community projects, travel and visiting historic sites.
