Empowering refugees through education
Since forming a partnership with CSB in late 2022 we have achieved an incredible amount of progress toward our goal of transforming lives through a quality secondary education. These are some of the proudest achievements to date in 2023.
Donations for Refugee Education
- $94,500 given by UWCSEA families to fund the 2023 Refugee Education program
- 60 computers donated by Standard Chartered and abrdn through UWCSEA parent connections
- $4,500 raised by Dover CSB GC to build an AV Conference room
- 150+ volunteer hours, equipment and resources donated by the Dover High School Science Team
Enhancements to CSB Educational Capacity
- Math and Science teachers were hired, 700 classes were taught and 50+ science experiments conducted
- Science Lab funded by PACE and created by Dover Science Teachers and Technicians
- 25 IGCSE students were supported and 29 exam fees paid
- 2 Dover Teachers established a Grade 11 Mentoring program
Student Service
- 30 Grade 11 Dover students delivering weekly online mentoring for CSB’s IGCSE class from September 2023 to June 2024
- East “Voices with Refugees” GC adopted CSB as their NGO and assisted with PACE Quiz night
- New Dover “CSB” GC formed spanning High School and Middle School
- Three Project Week groups (1 East, 2 Dover)
Family & Parent Service Trips
- UWCSEA families have visited CSB to paint walls & bookshelves, create murals, tutor students and engage through games and reading
- Parent Service Trip in September to plant an edible garden, teach classes, play games and mentor students
- 8 parent-led workshops for CSB Secondary Students including Career Talk, Interview Skills, Time Management and Ikigai
